No matter how dark the darkness seems,
it will be vanquished by the light.
No matter how entrapped and bound we are,
God will make us free.
No matter how deep our sorrow,
our mourning will be turned into joy.
This is the promise of Easter, that God
who sees the big picture
gives us a glimpse of glories to come.
Sometimes we are able to see this ourselves,
and sometimes we must rely on
the people around us who can see it.
If you catch a glimpse of the light,
share it with someone else!
If you can’t see if right now, ask around
and you will find evidence that it is there.

The text across the face of this piece is the beautiful and ancient prayer called the Exultet, which is sung by candlelight at the beginning of the Easter Vigil; the first service of Easter. After 7 weeks of Lent, during which we do not say or sing the word “Alleluia,” the Easter Vigil is a glorious experience of light and praise.
